St. John’s, NL (October 3, 2018) – PC Party Leader and MHA-elect for Windsor Lake Ches Crosbie is calling on Prime Minister Trudeau to put his money where his mouth is on the physical and cultural health of indigenous Labradorians.

“Premier Ball engaged in a phony process to buy social peace and has ducked action on the recommendations of his expert committee for six months now.” said Crosbie

The expert committee was set up in October 2016, after a marathon negotiation between Premier Ball and indigenous leaders, to settle an occupation of the Muskrat worksite. It made a report in April this year, recommending soil removal and wetland capping to reduce methylmercury contamination in Lake Melville fish and wildlife. The recommendations would cost hundreds of millions of dollars to implement.

“If Trudeau’s apology in Goose Bay last November is to mean anything, he and the silent seven Liberal MPs need to take ownership of the Muskrat contamination issue away from Premier Ball.” said Crosbie

Crosbie added that the provincial Liberal government engaged indigenous groups and Lake Melville communities in a phony process, and Premier Ball intends to do nothing to minimize contamination of the Lake Melville food supply.
